Dogs, copter used to track fleeing meth lab suspects

Using tracking dogs and a helicopter Monday afternoon, Limestone County Sheriff’s  deputies captured two suspects in northeastern Limestone County.

“Two of our investigators went to a residence on Oak Grove Road to talk to a person suspected in a recent burglary,” Sheriff Mike Blakely said. “We had also received complaints that someone was cooking methamphetamine at the residence.”

When investigators arrived, two suspects, who were in an out building, ran from the officers, the sheriff said. Inside the building, the investigators found what they believe was a meth lab, Blakely said.

“They were fixing to cook some meth,” the sheriff said. “We apprehended one of the suspects, and one got away.”

A call to Limestone Correctional Facility in the Capshaw community brought out the tracking dogs, and the sheriff’s helicopter was dispatched from Pryor Field Airport.

The second suspect was apprehended and taken into custody, the sheriff said.

The suspects’ names and their charges were not available at press time because investigators were still working on the case, Blakely said.
