2-vehicle Limestone wreck injures 2

TANNER — State troopers said a sedan turned into the path of an oncoming pickup truck in southern Limestone County shortly before 6 p.m. Friday, sending two Athens men to the hospital and heavily damaging both vehicles.

Troopers said a silver Mitsubishi Mirage sedan driven by Jerrod Davis, 24, of Athens attempted to turn left onto Hightower Road from the southbound lane of Lucas Ferry and was struck by a black GMC Sierra truck driven by Colt Kube, 29, of Athens.

“The silver (vehicle) turned in front of the truck,” Trooper Jacob Smith said after interviewing witnesses and photographing the scene, which included a pair of white sneakers found about 40 yards apart.

Troopers said Davis was wearing a seat belt. The driver and his brother, L.C. Davis, 22, of Athens were taken to Athens-Limestone Hospital via ambulance.

Kube and his two passengers were uninjured, Smith said.

Hospital officials said both patients were treated and released by Saturday morning.

Nearby residents who arrived ahead of first-responders said the younger Davis was ejected from the Mitsubishi and bleeding from his arm but still able to move around. Witnesses said the brothers remained conscious and were able to communicate.

“My daughter and I were shooting basketball and (the impact) sounded like a bomb went off,” said Randall Bivens, whose Hightower Road residence is about 100 yards from the intersection.

Surrounded by articles of clothing and shattered glass, the sedan rested backward in the northbound lane of Lucas Ferry. Beneath a pair of weeping willow trees, the nose of the truck nestled into a shallow ditch at the intersection.

Tanner Volunteer Fire Department, Athens-Limestone EMS and the Sheriff’s Office reported to the scene. Tate’s Wrecker Service and Tim’s Wrecker Service removed the vehicles.
