Elkmont woman driving sports car survives train collision

— An Elkmont resident survived this morning’s collision with a CSX train on Thach Road.

State troopers said Marcia Adams, 62, was injured after a train struck her 2013 Fiat. Adams was wearing a seat belt, troopers said.

Authorities said the railroad crossing lights were flashing at the time of the accident. The wreck occurred at 10:19 a.m. on Thach near Holt Road, approximately seven miles north of Athens.

Adams suffered abdominal and extremity injuries and was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital, according to emergency officials.

A hospital spokeswoman said this afternoon that Adams was listed in fair condition.
