Interview schedule for Athens superintendent candidates announced

The names and interview times for the six finalists for Athens City Schools superintendents has been released. The finalists, named this week, come from a pool of 18 people who applied for the position.

School board members will conduct public interviews with the candidates at 7 p.m. May 13-16 and May 20-21 at the central office on U.S. 31. Their interview times were released Friday. Superintendent Orman Bridges Jr. will retire July 1 after 41 years as an educator, including 10 years as head of city schools.

According to the Alabama Association of School Boards, the list of finalists and their interview dates includes:

William “Trey” Holladay — May 13

• Current position: Director alternative programs and athletics, and principal in Oxford City Schools since 2005;

• Experience: Administrative assistant/head coach at Smiths Station High School, 2002-2005; Assistant principal/elementary principal/athletic director at Lynn High/Elementary School, 1996-2002;

Dr. Camille Wright — May 14

• Current position: Director of instruction for Madison City Schools since 2007;

• Experience:  Principal of Section High School, 2005-2007; adjunct professor at Jacksonville State University, 2003-2007; principal at Macedonia Junior High School, 1998-2005; principal at Paint Rock Valley High School, 1994-1998;

Allen Martin — May 15

• Current position: Baldwin County Schools Assistant Superintendent in Georgia since 2008;

• Experience: Principal of Baldwin County schools, 2005-2008; assistant principal of Baldwin County schools, 2003-2005; assistant football coach with Jones County Board of Education in Georgia, 1999-2003; technology instructor at Jones County, 2000-2003; teacher at Jones County, 1999-2000;

Dr. Matt Hurt — May 16

• Current position: Director of curriculum and instruction for Wise County Public Schools in Virginia since 2009;

• Experience: Director of technology in Wise County schools, 2006-2009; assistant principal in Wise County schools, 2002-2006; teacher in Wise County schools, 1997-2002;

Dr. Michael “Todd” Freeman — May 20

• Current position: Principal Auburn City Schools since 2010;

• Experience:  Executive director operations and services in Auburn schools, 2003-2010; teacher/coach in Auburn schools, 1993-2003;

Dr. Sherene Carpenter — May 21

• Current position: Principal Birmingham City Schools since 2001;

• Experience: Assistant principal Birmingham schools, 1999-2001; teacher in Birmingham schools, 1995-1999;
