A trial date has been scheduled for the student accused of fatally shooting a fellow student at Discovery Middle School three years ago.
Hammad Ahmad Memon of Madison will be tried June 17 in Madison County Circuit Court, records show.
He is accused of shooting 14-year-old Todd Brown at the middle school they both attended in February 2010.
Memon’s attorney, James Parkman, of Parkman & White LLC in Birmingham, plans to present an insanity defense for his client.
Memon will remain in the Madison County Jail until his trial because he has been deemed a flight risk. Although he had been free on bail, his bail was revoked after he allegedly attempted to flee the country last April with the help of his parents, Iqbal and Safia Memon. The parents, who are charged with hindering prosecution, will be tried after Hammad.
