Coach Ron Oakley chuckles when he imagines how opponents must react
when they pass Athens High School soccer player Will Baker on the field and then confront his exact double, Wynn Baker, further down the line.
“It must be interesting for them,” Oakley said. “They must think, ‘Didn’t I just pass that guy?’”
The Bakers, twin sons of Robert and Lisa Baker of Athens, have been on the coach’s mind lately; partly because they were recently named National Merit Scholarship finalists — a feat unto itself — and partly because he will miss the two graduating seniors.
“I’ve been a coach for 37 years, and they are some of the brightest yet best soccer players I’ve had the opportunity to coach,” Oakley said. “They are the kind of players every coach likes to have on his team — they are the true meaning of the student athlete.”
