Police: Woman tries to fight Walmart employees after theft attempt

— An Athens woman was arrested Tuesday for allegedly shoplifting items at Walmart, Athens Police said.

Hazel Christina Thomas, 26, of 15828 Dupree Drive, was observed putting items in her purse, according to a police press release. When she tried to leave the store, staff members attempted to stop her. However, police said Thomas began to fight back.

She was stopped in the Walmart parking lot by officer Neal Muse and Sgt. Frank Murphy. She was arrested on charges of third-degree robbery and booked at the Athens Police Department.

Thomas remained in the Limestone County Jail Wednesday on a $5,000 bond.
