Limestone County man charged with third-degree burglary

ATHENS — A Limestone County man has been arrested in connection with a burglary Wednesday on Branch Road off U.S. 72.

Shameek Devon Marshall, 24, of Owens Apartments has been charged with third-degree burglary after allegedly taking guns and other items from a residence.

Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely said Chief Deputy Randy King spotted Marshall — who has prior arrests for burglary — in the area the day the incident occurred. Blakely said King stopped to question Marshall.

A burglary was reported the next day.

“When we got the call, he was quite naturally the suspect,” Blakely said.

Officers walked a field behind the residence that leads to the road. Blakely said that is where they recovered a red ball cap that Marshall was wearing the day the chief stopped to question him.

An officer located Marshall on Lavert Avenue Thursday.

“Marshall tried to run from him,” Blakely said. “Officers discovered a handgun taken from the burglary as he attempted to elude.”

Marshall remains in custody of the Limestone County Jail.
