The Limestone County Board of Education approved all personnel items during Thursday morning’s regular meeting, including the non-renewal of 27 employees, the continuation of 15 temporary hires and three transfers.
The board approved the continuation of Dixie Goodwin, Bill Tribble, Ryan Griffin, James Talbert, Patricia Carter, Bobby Redus, Sandra Newby, Adam Lawler, Amy Caffall, Christopher Page, Dan Beavers, Emalee Austin, Reuben Jenkins, Harold Bridges and David Reynolds.
Former Clements High School head football coach Michael Brown, a teacher whose coaching supplement was non-renewed earlier this spring, was transferred from Clements to West Limestone High School effective for the 2013-14 school year. Kyle Owens was transferred from a teacher to an instructional assistant at East Limestone High School, and Brian Wagnon was transferred from assistant principal to physical education teacher at East Limestone.
Limestone County Schools has more than 9,100 students and approximately 1,100 employees. Limestone’s annual payroll of approximately $58.2 million is 72.5 percent of the $80.3 million operating budget for the 2013 fiscal year, according to the system’s chief financial officer Jonathan Craft.
The system could lose as much as $850,000 in revenue for the upcoming school year due to the recent passage of the Alabama Accountability Act, which could draw as much as $70 million from the state’s Education Trust Fund.
Board president Bret McGill began the evaluation process in April for Dr. Tom Sisk, who was hired in July as Limestone superintendent. At Thursday’s meeting, he gave each board member a copy of approximately 50 evaluations from a sampling of parents and system employees. Each board member’s evaluation will be due in early June, and the deadline to complete the overall evaluation is June 30.
