Thunderstorms bring hail, winds to Alabama

— MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Thunderstorms brought hail and strong winds to communities across Alabama.

The storms approached from Mississippi on Monday and rolled northeast. Hail nearly half an inch in diameter fell in Pickens County.

Wind gusts of up to 65 miles per hour were recorded in Lamar County. Federal weather forecasters say numerous trees were toppled. A mobile home overturned in Marion County, while a roof was torn off a church in Barnesville.

Roughly 1,300 Cullman Electric Cooperative members were without electricity before midnight Monday.
