— The Athens City School system is one step closer to finding its next superintendent.

Public meetings, held Tuesday, drew about 43 people including school and system administrators, public officials, certified and support staff, and the general community, according to Director of Leadership Development for the Alabama Association of School Boards Susan Salter.

The meetings were aimed at finding the community’s vision as well as the characteristics sought in the next superintendent.

Salter believes the turnout was “pretty good.” She said in her experience when people are basically happy and satisfied with a school system there is typically not an overwhelming attendance at the meetings. “The turnout was good and gave a good representation of the community,” she said.
