UPDATE: Woman accused of stealing pistol from home

ATHENS — An Athens woman accused of stealing a pistol from a home has been arrested on a charge of third-degree burglary, records show.

Police responded to a call about a missing gun from someone at 109 Virginia Drive on March 12, Police Chief Floyd Johnson said. Investigator Eric White developed Shanna Deanne Davis, 24, of Fifth Avenue Apartments, S-59, as a suspect and arrested her Friday, Johnson said. She knew the home’s occupant, he said.

Police believe Davis, who knew the home’s occupant, entered the home, stole the handgun and then sold it to someone who did not realize it was stolen, Johnson said. Police recovered the gun.

Davis was booked at the Police Department.
