Athens school board makes personnel changes

ATHENS — Athens school board members took the following action regarding personnel during their monthly meeting:

• Granted retirement to the following: Jean Aldridge, second-grade teacher at Brookhill Elementary School; Donna McDaniel, first-grade teacher at Julian Newman Elementary School; Alice Jackson, fifth-grade teacher at Athens Intermediate School; Ginger Gordon, sixth-grade teacher at Athens Intermediate; Vicki Stevenson, math teacher at Athens Middle School; Betty Campbell, cafeteria manager at Cowart Elementary School; and Emma Binford, special-education aide at Athens Elementary School.

• Accepted resignations from the following: Ashley Coffman, first-grade teacher at Cowart; Leanne Hudleston, third-grade teacher at Brookhill; Bruce Craig, physical-education teacher at Athens Middle; Darshell Sanderfer, speech/language pathologist at Julian Newman; Lakeisha Williams, special-education teacher at Athens Elementary; and Pricilla Baker, systemwide special-education aide at Cowart.

• Agreed not to renew contracts for the following: Corey Looney, sixth-grade teacher at Athens Intermediate; Shawna Baugher, LPN at Athens Intermediate; Holly Hargrove, systemwide aide at Julian Newman; and Britney Bates, first-grade teacher at Julian Newman.

• Agreed to transfer the following: Hollie Tomlin to first-grade teacher at Julian Newman; Cynthia Anglin to Athens Intermediate music teacher; Debra Johnson to Athens Intermediate art teacher; and Leah Pierce, to art teacher at Cowart and Brookhill elementaries.

• Agreed to hire the following: Ashley Coffman, first-grade teacher at Cowart; Kristin Gatlin, sixth-grade teacher at Athens Intermediate; Corey Looney, sixth-grade teacher at Athens Intermediate; Beth Anderson, sixth-grade teacher at Athens Intermediate; Brittany Johnson, sixth-grade teacher at Athens Intermediate; Leanne Hudleston, third-grade teacher at Brookhill; Britney Bates, first-grade teacher at Julian Newman; Holly Hargrove, systemwide aide at Julian Newman; Steven Craig Maples, assistant girls soccer coach; and Lakeisha Williams, special-education teacher at Athens Elementary.

• Granted tenure to the following: Andrew Risner, Susan Hughes, Koleceia Simmons, Kate Armstrong and Ellie Lovvorn;

• Agreed to reimburse sick leave to Amy Havely, physical-education teacher at Julian Newman.
