— Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson said 71-year-old Sol Anderson was injured at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday when a tractor he was working on rolled forward over him.

The incident happened at 924 E. Strain Road, which is off South Lindsay Lane.

W.O. Sledge told The News Courier he was working on the tractor’s ignition with Anderson and “cranked” the tractor as Anderson was standing against it and the tractor was in gear and lurched forward, and “run on” to Anderson.

Sledge said Anderson, “got hung and the front wheel caught him.”

“Our department along with Athens Fire Department and Athens-Limestone Ambulance service responded,” said Johnson. “Anderson was transported to Athens-Limestone Hospital and flown by MedFlight to Huntsville Hospital.”

Witnesses said Anderson was conscious and talking after the accident.

A hospital spokeswoman said Anderson was being treated in the emergency room at 6 p.m. Wednesday. She said he was listed in fair condition.
