Sheriff’s deputies have arrested one man and are searching for another in connection with an early-morning home invasion on Segers Road next to the Old Cobblestone subdivision.
Wendell Hyter Jr., 22, of 704 Old Railroad Bed Road, Harvest, was arrested on a charge of first-degree burglary charges and remains in the Limestone County Jail with bail set at $10,000.
Sheriff Mike Blakely said the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. Thursday when two men entered a residence. One of the suspects was armed with a gun and had a stocking over his face, according to Blakely.
Blakely said there were six people in home at the time of the invasion — the owner, owner’s son, a male friend, and three women. Blakely said the group was “having a party” when the two men entered the residence.
“One of the assailants hit the owner’s friend in the head with a gun and hollered for everyone to get down on the floor,” Blakely said. “As he attempted to bind the man’s hands with flex cuffs (zip ties), the owner of house began to hit him with pool sticks. The guy with the gun ran off.”
Blakely said the men then hit the other assailant with pool sticks and broke a guitar over his head. The second man fled to a nearby house hollering for help, according to Blakely.
The owner of the home heard the man and found him outside. Blakely said the suspect was held at gunpoint until a deputy arrived.
Deputies spent the morning attempting to locate the armed suspect. Blakely said they tracked him with prison dogs and a helicopter and are still attempting to locate him. He believes he could have went to Madison County.
Deputies are also trying to locate two women who fled when the fighting started.
Blakely said two of the men who were attacked went to Huntsville Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
