City leaders want you to get your pink on in October

Get your pink on, Athens.

Mayor Ronnie Marks has declared the month of October as breast cancer awareness month.

The mayor is asking citizens to participate by wearing pink every Friday in October. He has designated this as Pink Parade Fridays. Those who dress up in pink or decorate their offices, homes, etc., can send photos to Holly Hollman at hhollman@athensal.us for use on the city’s Facebook and Twitter pages.

This month, there will be a variety of events related to breast cancer awareness month. Athens-Limestone Hospital Foundation is hosting the Pink Elephant Luncheon at noon Oct. 16 at the Limestone County Event Center. Ladies from the community have asked different men to wear heels as part of the program. Money raised will support mammogram scholarships to those in Limestone County.
