Finance officer search narrowed to 3 finalists

County school system seeking new CSFO

— The county school system has narrowed its search for a new chief school finance officer to three finalists, including the system’s former CSFO.

School officials announced on Friday that interim Limestone CSFO Ann Swanner, Christopher Martin and Tieasha Abdur-Rasheed are the final candidates after receiving 22 applications.

A screening committee reviewed 10 applicants and then trimmed a list of five finalists that included Yolanda Reid and Ina Smith down to three candidates.

Swanner served as Limestone’s chief finance officer from 1984 to 1997, and since then has taught finance classes at the University of Alabama Superintendents’ Academy and worked as a finance consultant for the state.

The Board of Education hired Swanner as interim finance officer effective Aug. 22. Former CSFO Jonathan Craft accepted the same position with Hartselle City Schools in September.

Martin, a Tuscaloosa resident, is the CSFO for Greene County Schools in Eutaw and previously spent five years with the state Department of Examiners of Public Accounts, where he examined public funds and legal compliance requirements for county governments.

Abdur-Rasheed, an Odenville resident, is a staff accountant for Birmingham City Schools with eight years of governmental accounting experience. She is also pursuing her doctoral degree in business administration from Walden University.

Public interviews are scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 15, in the second-floor meeting chambers at the Clinton Street courthouse annex. Abdur-Rasheed will interview at 5:30 p.m., followed by Martin at 6:30 p.m. and Swanner at 7:30 p.m.
