An unwanted guest at a local motel over the weekend turned out to be a registered sex offender who didn’t have his identification on hand as required by law.
Athens Police arrested Jerry Wayne Thompson, 34, of 708 Westmoreland Ave., Athens, at the Mark Motel on May 10, records show. He is accused of violating the identification requirements of the state sex offender act, Chief Floyd Johnson said.
Someone who had complained of an unwanted guest called police to the motel, Johnson said. When officers arrived, the owner told them there were several people in one of his rooms that were causing a disturbance, the chief said. When the officers checked the people in the room they found Thompson, who was not carrying any identification as required by law.
He was booked at the Police Department and transferred to the Limestone County Jail, where bail is set at $15,000.
