Showers and thunderstorms could impact North Alabama Monday.
The National Weather Service in Huntsville said showers and thunderstorms are likely Monday afternoon with the chance of rain at 70 percent. Temperatures will be close to 70 degrees ahead of a cold front that will move across the area.
On Saturday, NWS Meteorologist Dave Nadler said there is an elevated threat for strong to marginally severe thunderstorms from Mondayafternoon to the evening. If severe weather develops, he said, the primary threat is damaging winds that could reach up to 60 mph.
“It’s something to watch,” Nadler said, adding it is nothing too alarming at this time. But, he encourages storm preparedness.
Cooler and drier weather will follow the front for Tuesday and Wednesday, according to local forecasts. More rain looks likely late next week.
