ELKMONT — A story in today’s edition of The News Courier inaccurately reported the location of the arrest of Randall Lynn Black, 42, of 23769 Norman Lane, Elkmont.

A Limestone County Sheriff’s deputy did arrest Black Sunday night on charges of attempting to elude, speeding, reckless driving, driving while license revoked and driving on the wrong side of the road. However, Black told The News Courier Tuesday that he was arrested at his home on Norman Lane not Douglas Drive as reported. He said he was sleeping when a deputy arrived at his house and that his truck had been stolen.

Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely said the deputy’s official report offers the following version of the story:

A deputy on patrol turned around and tried to get a motorist driving a truck to stop, but the motorist passed the road on Norman Lane and went out in a field and into a tree line, according to the report.  The officer exited his vehicle, walked through the mud where the truck had stopped and found no one in the truck, according to the report. When the officer ran the vehicle’s tag, it came back to a man who said he had sold the truck to Randy Black who lives on Norman Lane, according to the report.

“The officer went to Norman Lane, and Mr. Black had fresh scratches like he had gotten into the thicket like where he had parked the truck,” the sheriff said Tuesday. “He gave the officer permission to search, and the officer found wet boots in the bathroom that Black couldn’t explain and wet blue jeans in the washer with change still in them.”

Black said the sheriff would not allow him to report his truck stolen at the time of his arrest.

Blakely confirmed this, saying, “Not after trying to evade an officer, then no.”

The sheriff added it was “a strange coincidence” that Black had not already reported his truck stolen and that that the truck was hidden behind a tree line near Black’s house on Norman Lane.
