— A Harvest woman killed in a wreck east of Athens Tuesday afternoon was heading to work when she collided with a dump truck, officials said.

Kyara Nicole Burns, 19, was heading to Logan’s Roadhouse when her 2010 Ford Focus collided with a dump truck about 4:35 p.m. on Nick Davis Road, eight miles east of Athens, state troopers and the Limestone County coroner said.

Burns was pulling out from Wellhouse Drive, a subdivision where her sister lived, onto Nick Davis Road when she apparently did not see the truck on Nick Davis and collided with it, Limestone County Coroner Mike West said.

The driver of the 2000 Sterling dump, Joe Louis Thompson, 56, of Athens, was not injured, troopers said. He attempted to stop but struck the driver’s side of Burns’ car, West said

She was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt-force trauma to her head and chest, West said.

Berryhill Funeral Home in Huntsville will announce arrangements for Burns.
