Roads closed twice Saturday in Athens

— Motorists in Athens can expect road closures twice Saturday morning during the annual Keep Athens-Limestone Beautiful Duck and Run event and again during the Trail of Tears motorcycle ride.

Duck and Run

The 5-kilometer run begins at 8 a.m., with a fun run to follow at 9 a.m.

The race starts on East Street, north of Washington Street, and continues south on East. From there it turns right on Forrest, right on Houston, right on First Avenue, right on Madison, left on Market, right on Marion, left on Forrest, left on Beaty and on to Big Spring Memorial Park.

Trail of Tears

The Trail of Tears Commemorative Motorcycle Ride also will come through Athens on U.S. 72 Saturday sometime between 11:30 a.m. and noon. Access to U.S. 72 West will be blocked while the motorcycles are in the city. The only way to travel between parts of the city north and south of the highway will be via U.S. 31.
