An Athens man died in a one-vehicle accident that also killed a Harvest man on Thanksgiving morning.
State troopers reported the driver, 22-year-old Daniel Hose of Athens, and his passenger, 23-year-old Jonathen Jolley of Harvest, were traveling in a 2007 Ford Mustang when it left Jeff Road, struck a tree and ejected both occupants at 3 a.m. Thursday.
WAFF-48 reported that firefighters at the scene said it appeared the car was traveling more than 100 mph when it crashed, causing the tree to split in half, the car’s steering wheel to be flung about 100 yards away and the engine to be found in the Mustang’s trunk.
State troopers said neither man was wearing a seat belt. The accident happened between Burwell and Kelly Springs roads on Jeff Road five miles north of Huntsville.
WAFF-48 also reported that toxicology reports are pending for both victims to determine whether alcohol or drugs factored into the accident.
