BREAKING: Limestone bust nets pot, pills, cash

— Limestone County Sheriff’s officials found 3.5 pounds of marijuana, more than 600 narcotic pain pills and $5,850 in cash during a drug bust Tuesday night, an official said.

Sheriff Mike Blakely said a deputy stopped a vehicle driven by Herman Cartwright Jr., 33, of 24095 Fennell Road and found 1 pound of marijuana inside. Deputies then searched Cartwright’s home and found 2.5 pounds of marijuana, 660 Lortab pills and the cash, the sheriff said.

“The Sheriff’s Office had been performing surveillance on him for some time after receiving several complaints,” Blakely said.

Cartwright was arrested on charges of trafficking marijuana, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, records show. He was released from the Limestone County Jail after posting bail of $31,000.

Lt. Lance Royals made the arrest.
