— With Thanksgiving only two days away, several local people are working to put the finishing touches on a planned communitywide Thanksgiving feast.

The second annual dinner, organized by Roxanne Haggermaker, Kim Birdsong and more than a dozen volunteers, will take place from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Thanksgiving Day.

The group plans to serve up a home-cooked Thanksgiving meal at the Vietnam Veterans of America building and will also deliver meals to homebound residents of Limestone County.

Haggermaker said the group currently needs vegetables, side dishes and bread to make the meal complete.

“We will serve until everyone gets fed,” said Haggermaker, who added the main purpose is for everyone to be able to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner with friends and family.

Haggermaker said anyone is welcome to attend, regardless of income.  However, delivery is restricted to local residents who are unable to leave their homes.

The Vietnam Veterans of America building is located at 17915 W. Elm St. in Athens.
