Athens has an array of Christmas activities planned in the coming weeks.
Here is a list of what is slated so far:
Dec. 1 and 2 — Donnell House 2012 Festival of Trees from 1 to 5 p.m. Only dates remaining. Cost is $8. Theme is a “Festival of Trees: A Civil War Christmas.”
Dec. 2 — Athens Ladies Civitan Club Second Annual Holiday Home Tour from 1 to 5 p.m. The tour will feature seven homes in Athens and Limestone County. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 the day of the tour. For tickets or more information, call Carolyn Stair at 256-233-0258 or Carol Malone at 256-232-2865.
Dec. 6 —
• Courthouse Christmas Tree Lighting at 5:15 p.m. Held before the Reliance Bank Christmas Parade on the southwest corner of the Limestone County Courthouse lawn.
• Reliance Bank Christmas Parade at 6 p.m. Theme is “Christmas Around the World.” Route is from Athens High School, west on Hobbs Street, around the Limestone County Courthouse Square and south on Jefferson Street to the old Kroger building and future home of the Athens-Limestone Public Library.
Dec. 8 — Sippin’ Cider from 5-8 p.m. on the Limestone County Courthouse Square. Free admission. Gather around a fire pit on our historic square and roast marshmallows and vote for your favorite cider made by merchants. Other activities include children’s Christmas crafts, singing by Trey Morgan, music by the Athens Dulcimers Club and others. Bring your camera for photos with Santa and Dickens characters. Sponsored by Spirit of Athens.
Dec. 9 — Athens State University Community Band Concert at 3 p.m. at the ASU gymnasium.
