Police investigating fatal shooting in Owens Cross Roads

— HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) — Police are investigating the death of a man shot multiple times near his Madison County home.

Al.com reports that 44-year-old Alonzo Bernard McGhee died outside his Owens Cross Roads home late Friday.

Police spokesman Harry Hobbs said the victim was shot multiple times. Neighbors reported hearing what they described as bangs or pops around the time of the shooting.

Investigators did not have any suspects Saturday.

The victim was recently divorced from Fillis McGhee, a former principal at the Hampton Cove Elementary School. She was accused of nepotism and fraud and fired from her job in October 2011.
