BREAKING: Teen runaway sought by sheriff’s office found dead

From staff reports

— Investigators with the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday discovered the body of a 15-year-old male believed to have run away from home.

Capt. Stanley McNatt with the sheriff’s office said the body of Steven James Keele was found about 2:30 p.m. at the edge of a sage field behind his grandmother’s house, located off Quinn Road. McNatt said though Keele’s body will be sent for an autopsy, it appears he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Keele’s grandmother had custody of him for the last two years, according to the sheriff’s office. He was last seen on the night of Monday, Jan. 28, and had visited an aunt before returning home. His grandmother went to take a bath and when she returned, he was gone.

The sheriff’s office issued a press release about Keele’s disappearance on Friday.

McNatt said investigators had spent several hours combing through Keele’s computer and cellphone looking for clues related to his disappearance.

“The boy appeared to have some issues he was dealing with,” McNatt said.
