ATV driver charged with assaulting trooper

— A Boaz man accused of attacking an Alabama state trooper Wednesday morning may face additional charges, officials said.

A trooper had stopped the driver of an all-terrain vehicle about 11:40 a.m. Wednesday on Alabama 79, and a struggle ensued after the driver attempted to flee the scene on his ATV, the Huntsville trooper post reported today.

The ATV overturned and the trooper was able to take the operator — Kenny Junior Sparks, 31, of Boaz — into custody, troopers said. Sparks, who is now charged with second-degree assault, driving under the influence, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia and reckless driving, was taken to the Marshall County Jail, records show.

More charges may follow, troopers said.

The trooper who made the arrest was treated for minor injuries.
