Adam Smith named managing editor of News Courier

Adam Smith has been named managing editor of The News Courier, following the departure of longtime editor Kelly Kazek in late September.

Smith, 35, joined The News Courier as news editor/digital editor in December 2010 and moved to North Alabama with his wife, Lensey. He previously worked at the Times-Georgian, in Carrollton, Ga.
Smith is from Bynum, Ala., and a graduate of Jacksonville State University. He began his career in journalism as a copy editor and page designer for the Gadsden Times in 2002. He worked at the Birmingham Post-Herald from 2003 to 2005 and was general manager and editor of the bi-weekly North Jefferson News in Gardendale from 2006 to 2010.
The News Courier and North Jefferson News are owned by Community Newspaper Holdings Inc., of Montgomery.
