Four Limestone teams headed to Hanceville

Athens boys host East tonight for regional berth

— Five Limestone teams played in the sub-regional basketball playoffs on Friday night, with four headed to Hanceville for the Northwest Regional Tournament at Wallace State Community College.

The Tanner boys dropped Cherokee 84-54, while the Tanner girls routed Colbert Heights 62-26. The Rattlers will face Cold Springs on Wednesday in the boys and girls’ Class 2A brackets.

In 4A action, the West boys held off Haleyville 62-58 to play Butler on Thursday, while the Ardmore girls fell 81-38 at defending state champion Oneonta.

In 5A, the East Limestone girls notched a 49-45 back-and-forth victory over archrival Athens, advancing to Hanceville for the first time in 16 years.

A fifth local team will secure a regional berth tonight, as the 5A Athens boys (25-3) host East Limestone (20-7) at 7 p.m.

The winner of tonight’s game will play in Wednesday’s regional semifinals against Wenonah, which blew out Hayden 154-56.

Wednesday, Feb. 19

East Limestone girls (26-7) vs. Pleasant Grove (23-7), 9 a.m.

Athens-East boys winner vs. Wenonah (26-7), 1:30 p.m.

Tanner girls (19-7) vs. Cold Springs (27-6), 3 p.m.

Tanner boys (18-8) vs. Cold Springs (16-9), 4:30 p.m.

Thursday, Feb. 20

West Limestone boys (20-11) vs Butler (12-11), 7:30 p.m.
