John Douglass Anderson

The funeral for John Douglass “Jack” Anderson, 79, of Madison will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church of Athens with the Rev. Jimmy Bassham and the Rev. Bobby Christopher officiating and McConnell Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Mr. Anderson died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, at Huntsville Hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Anita Christopher Anderson of Madison; two sons, John C. Anderson and wife Jeanne of Elkmont and J. Mark Anderson and wife Kimberlee English Anderson of Rogersville; his sister, Jane Swint of Athens; his brother, Billy Fred Anderson of Athens; two grandchildren, Joe D. Anderson and Grace Kathryn Anderson; his friend, Kenny Wayne Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Hugh Ball, Al Kennemer, Walter Walker, Fred Bickley, Tom Dean, Melvin Clem, Buddy Crow and Jay Crow.

Mr. Anderson was born in Morgan County to Joe. D. Anderson and Kathryn Wann Anderson on July 10, 1928. He attended Athens Agriculture School. He was a sergeant in the National Guard and served in the Korean War. He graduated from Athens College with a degree in accounting. He was a retired farmer and was currently selling crop insurance. He was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church and served as a lay leader, was currently teaching a young adult Sunday School class and was attending discipleship class.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Betty Jo Cole. He loved to garden, fish with his grandchildren, and he was a loving and caring father and husband.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Music Trust Fund at First United Methodist Church. Also, books may be donated in his memory to the church library. Also, perennials may be sent to be planted at his home at 10830 Mooresville Road, Madison, Ala., 35758.

Linda Faye Surles

The funeral service for Linda Faye Surles, 54, will be at noon Saturday at Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Endia J. Scruggs officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at the Royal Chapel.
