Edward C. Williams
The funeral for Edward C. “Shorty” Williams, 89, of Athens will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at McConnell Funeral Home with the Rev. Dusty McLemore and the Rev. Sonny Schofield officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Williams died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, at Limestone Lodge.
He is survived by one daughter, Elwanda W. Varnell and husband Roger of Austin, Texas; two grandchildren, Max Keith McGee and wife Lisa of Chiefland, Fla., and Dr. Tim McGee and wife Dr. Amy McGee of Austin; four great-grandchildren, Jack and Ryan McGee of Austin and Robert and Kristy McGee of Chiefland; three step-great-grandchildren, Ronnie Fowler, Tyler Fowler and Christel Anderson, all of Chiefland; his sister, Willie Jones of Louisville, Ky.; and one brother, Lawrence Williams of Toney.
Pallbearers will be Robert Sturdivant, Eddie McLemore, Freddie Boyd, Jim Burden, J.W. Miller, Henry Miller, David Fogg and Don McGee.
Honorary pallbearers will be residents and staff of Limestone Manor, Limestone Lodge and the staff of Hospice of Limestone County.
Mr. Williams was born March 6, 1918, in Toney to Benton Edward Williams and Lou Willie Williams. He was a member of Lindsay Lane Baptist Church. He was a retired barber and schoolteacher. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Woodmen of the World and Disabled American Veterans. He was preceded in death by his wife, Tera Williams.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Limestone County, Lindsay Lane Baptist Church Building Fund or West Highland Baptist Building Fund.
