The News Courier will publish, free of charge, death notices including the name, age and city of residence of the deceased, date and place of death, and time and place of funeral services and visitation.

Family members now may express themselves in a eulogy, list survivors and give detailed biographical information about the deceased in a paid obituary. The News Courier will accept these paid items from the family, funeral directors, or other individuals. Paid obituaries may include a photo at no extra charge.

If a published obituary contains an error, The News Courier will reprint a corrected obituary at no charge, provided the error was ours. The News Courier does not issue refunds on obituary announcements.

Johnny Brooks

The funeral for Johnny Brooks, 51, of Harvest, will be at 1 p.m. today at Spry Funeral Home with Dan Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Wesley’s Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Brooks died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006, at Huntsville Hospital.

He was born Nov. 30, 1954, in Limestone County. He was a member of the Methodist Church, a United States Army veteran and an employee of Star Spirits in Decatur.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Jessie Brooks and one brother, Terry Brooks.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Brooks of Harvest; three sons, Jason Brooks, John David Brooks, both of Athens, Bubba Brooks of Madison; one Godson, C.J. Smith of Athens; one brother, Tracy Brooks of Athens; three sisters, Ann Tidwell of Wilmington, N.C., Aleisa Brooks, Deborah Rouse, both of Athens and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Danny Waddell, Carlos Waddell, Steve Day, Kenny Smith, Stan Eastep and David Sommerfeld.

Catherine Ellen Gilbert

Catherine Ellen Gilbert died Oct. 11, 2006, at Limestone Health Facility. She was born Feb. 20, 1923, in Wallingford, Vt., and lived in Vermont until joining the Navy in 1944.
