Rosa Mae Sides
Our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, Rosa Mae Sides, died at 2:06 p.m. Aug. 16, 2007, at her daughter’s residence. She was born March 26, 1922, in Madison County to Berdie George and Josephine Tucker Whitworth. She was a homemaker who loved taking care of her family. She was a wonderful cook known especially for her delicious fried pies and chicken and dumplings. She enjoyed gardening and quilting, and made quilts for every member of the family. Other people impressed by the beauty of her quilts, commissioned her work. More importantly, her outward beauty reflected her inner beauty, for she loved the Lord and was a wonderful example of the Christian faith. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ. For the majority of her life, she attended both Pleasant Valley and Jackson Drive Church of Christ.
She was a loving wife to Earl B. Sides for 47 years before his death in 1985. They lived most of their lives in the Pleasant Valley community, where they raised six children – one daughter followed by five sons.
The funeral for Mrs. Sides will be at 2 p.m. today at Spry Funeral Home with David Deason, Benji Taylor and Lance Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Sandlin Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Bobby Lee Sides; three granddaughters, Kimberly Sides Pellegrin, Paula Sides and Sabrina Sides; one grandson, Randy Schueler, and one great-grandson, Hayden Pressnell.
She is survived by her five children including, one daughter, Nellie Schueler and husband William of Athens; four sons, Billy Don Sides of Tanner, Herbert Sides and wife Becky of Athens, Doug Sides and wife Trish of Athens, and Gregory Sides of Tanner; and one daughter-in-law, Ree Sides, wife of the late Bobby Sides.
She had 14 living grandchildren, Terri Schueler Rankin, Karen Sides Graham, Heather Sides Peek, Bryan Sides, Chris Sides, Darren Sides, Dana Sides Pressnell, Kevin Hammond, Kerri Hammond Stanford, Keith Sides, Amanda Sides Drake, Justin Sides, Serena Sides and Charlotte Hathcote.
She had 22 living great-grandchildren, Chad Lindsay, Kristin Lindsay, Ryan Schueler, Bryson Bennett, Teashea Graham, Michael Sides, Grayson Sides, Alexander Sides, Alexa Sides, McKenzie Sides, Harrison Pressnell, Hamilton Pressnell, Huntley Pressnell, Kristin Nance, William Nance, Kalub Harvey, Brea Jarrett, Randall Jarrett, Allie Drake, Jamison Drake, Hailey Sides and Peyton Reynolds.
She had one great-great grandchild, Brodie Lindsay.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County.
Martha S. Sims
The funeral for Martha S. Sims, 64, will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Spry Funeral Home. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.
Mrs. Sims died Friday, Aug. 17, 2007, at home.
Florence Elar Meredith
The graveside service for Florence Elar Meredith, 82, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Sunnyhill Church of Christ Cemetery with Randy Carter officiating.
Visitation will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home.
Mrs. Meredith died Friday, Aug. 17, 2007, at the Limestone Convalescent Center.
She was born Sept. 17,1924, in Limestone County to Alvis Waddell and Ethel Walls Waddell. She worked for Sunbeam Bakery and was a member of Sunnyhill Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Melvin Elmore and James John Meredith; and one son, Lavon Elmore.
She is survived by her stepson, Jimmy Meredith Sr. and wife Joy; granddaughter, Lisa Joines; five grandsons, Dennis, Ricky and Jeffery Elmore, Jimmy Meredith Jr., and Jarron Meredith, all of Athens; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
