William Campbell

— The graveside service for William “Mack” Campbell, 93, of Athens will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 10, at Roselawn Cemetery with Joe Teal officiating.

Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, June 9, at Spry Funeral Home.

Mr. Campbell died Monday, June 3, 2013, in Jacksonville, Fla. He was born May 28, 1920, in Birmingham to Nancy Jane Campbell and Albert Price Campbell.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served from 1940-1945. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, and was active in numerous other community activities.

Mr. Campbell graduated from Phillips High School in Birmingham in 1939. He married Juanita Stovall of Carbon Hill on Sept. 5, 1942. He owned and operated Mack Campbell Body Shop on Washington Street in Athens.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Campbell; daughters, Olivia Campbell and Carolyn Campbell Mengelson; a nephew he considered his son, James H. Thornton; granddaughters, Ann Mengelson Clark and Elizabeth Mengelson; great-grandsons, Alex Nichols and Ryan Mengelson Clark; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
