Lewie Brooks Jr.

— The funeral for Lewie Brooks Jr., 91, of Athens, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, at Spry Funeral Home with Jeff May officiating. Burial will be in Elk River Mills Memorial Gardens, with military honors.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 Monday, June 10, at the funeral home.

Mr. Brooks died Sunday, June 9, 2013, in Athens.

He was born March 17, 1922, in Limestone County. He was a member of Oakland Church of Christ in Athens. He was a World War II Army veteran, past commander of the American Legion and had retired from Redstone Arsenal. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewie and Pearl Batts Brooks; a grandson, Anthony Brooks; a great-grandson, Bradley Brooks; and a brother, Horace Brooks.

Memorial donations may be made to Fellowship Center, 1901 Clinch Ave., Knoxville, TN 37916.

Mr. Brooks is survived by his wife of 59 years, Cletis B. Brooks of Athens; three daughters, Debbie Romine and husband Elton of Rogersville, Diane Brooks of Athens, and Sandrea Walls and husband Terry of Athens; three sons, Stan Brooks of Huntsville, Dwight Brooks of Athens and Toney Brooks and wife Martha  of Athens; one sister, Hass Rowland of Athens; eight grandchildren, Sonya Marks and husband Heath, Amanda Lindsay and husband Chad, Joel Romine and wife Alisha, Stephanie Brooks, Matthew Brooks, Adam Walls, Carlos Brooks, and Roy Brooks and wife Jennifer; 12 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Brooks, Heath Marks, Chad Lindsay, Joel Romine, Pap Johnson and Ronnie Brackeen.
