William Leslie Nelson, 66, passed into the arms of Jesus on Jan. 9 in Decatur. He was born Jan. 19, 1947, in Athens to John J. and Martina N. Nelson.
Mr. Nelson graduated from Athens High School in 1965 and from Auburn University’s School of Pharmacy in 1970. He worked in retail pharmacy for 35 years and was a former member of the Athens City Council and the Athens City Board of Education.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Williams Nelson; daughters, Gayle Nelson Brown and husband Jason of Athens and Leslianna Nelson Garlington and husband Andy of Franklin, Tenn.; grandchildren, Nancy Grace Brown, Nelson Truett Brown, Gray Evelyn Garlington and Eli Bain Garlington; brothers, John Nelson and wife Sandi, and Stanley Nelson; a number of nieces and nephews; and his mother-in-law, Nancy Sanford Williams Ludwig.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. Visitation is 5-6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
