John Bates

John Eric Bates, 51, of Elkmont, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at Parkway Medical Center. Eric was born Oct.14, 1961, in Athens, and was a lifelong area resident. He loved to hunt and spend time with his grandson, Hunter.

Services for Eric will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. Visitation was Monday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ripley Cemetery with Frankie Murphy officiating. 

He is survived by his mother and step-father, Susan and Alan Leff; grandmother, Birdie Bates; brother, Mark Bates and wife Jeraldine; sister, Lila Bates; nephew, Blayne Bates; step-children, Tabitha Spires and Mark Guisasola; grandchildren, Hunter Adams and Kenlee Guisasola; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his father, Thomas Bates; grandparents, Robert and Barbara Harper and Hubert Bates.

Pallbearers are Dan Agee, Keith Harbin, Greg LeCroix, Jerry Reece, Danny Adams, Anthony Bates, Bobby LeCroix, Richard Carruth and Jimmy Jeffreys.
