The funeral for Martha Gelena Clem Cottles, 77, of Athens will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, at McConnell Funeral Home with Donald Terry and Mike Westmoreland officiating.
Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Cottles died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, at Athens-Limestone Hospital.
She was born Feb. 27, 1936, to James David Clem and Mary Addie Sylvester Clem. She was the oldest member of Madison Street Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Cottles; one brother, J.D. Clem Jr.; and three sisters, Evie Gatlin, Anna Jean Clevenger and Mamie Lou Russell.
Mrs. Cottles is survived by her three sons, Steven Wayne Cottles, Gregory Gene Cottles and Benjamin Dean Cottles, all of Athens; one daughter, Bonita Gale Cottles Merchant of Athens; and one sister, Claudell Burrough.
Pallbearers will be Virgil Murphy, Larry Posey, Ronnie Cottles, Jody Cottles, Jackie Lewter and John Lewter.
Honorary pallbearers will be Houston Bumpus, Ray Cottles, Cecil Sanders and grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Madison Street Baptist Church, Hospice of Limestone County or the Gideon’s.
