J.O. Garrett, 84, of Toccoa, Ga., passed away Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at Stephens County Hospital in Toccoa.
A son of the late Judge H. and Ollie Loudermilk Garrett, he was born May 5, 1929, in Stephens County, Ga., where he lived all his life. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Korean War. He retired from the Coats and Clark textile industry. He was a member of the Toccoa Pentecostal Holiness Church, the Toccoa Coffee Club, and the VFW where he served in the Honor Guard.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Joey and Tammy Garrett of Tanner; daughters and son-in-law, Debbie and Tony English of Toccoa, and Susan Smith of Seneca, S.C.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Jesse Garrett of Royston, Ga.; two sisters, Rosa Lee Lewallen of Toccoa, and Josie Mae Smith of Jonesboro, Ga.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at 4 p.m., Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, in the Hillcrest Chapel of Acree-Davis Funeral Home in Toccoa with the Rev. Don Scott officiating. Pallbearers were Noah Smith, Nicholas Smith, Terry Haney, Eric Haney, Al Garrett and Wayne Maxwell.
Interment was in the Mount Bethel Church of God Cemetery. The Georgia National Guard Honor Guard and the Toccoa VFW Post 4346 provided military honors.
The family received friends from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Camp Toccoa at Currahee Inc., 160 Alexander St., Toccoa, GA 30577 in memory of Mr. J.O. Garrett.
