William “Bill” Vinson

William “Bill” Oscar Vinson, 75, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, after a courageous fight against pneumonia and every effort by the wonderful people at Coliseum Hospital in Macon, Ga.

Born in Limestone County to Edward Hawkins Vinson and Jewel Jackson Vinson, he joined the Army at age 17 and was stationed in Detroit where he met his bride of 55 years, Ruth Ida Domke Vinson. They traveled to Germany, Texas, Alaska, New York, California, and eventually retired in Decatur, home to most of his family.

He then had a career in security and retired from The 3M Company. After calling Decatur home for more than 30 years he and his wife moved to Reynolds, Ga., and loved this quiet town of loving people.

He was a loving husband, father, brother, son, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and co-worker. Because of his dedication to his family, work, and anything he attempted to do he was respected and admired by all who had the pleasure of spending time with him.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Vinson; five children, Sheryl Huggins, Larry Vinson, Keith Vinson and wife Tracy, Diana Rhea and husband Dennis, and Karen Vinson; one brother, John Vinson; two sisters, Jean Dawes and husband Bernard, and Betty Dawson; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services for the celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at First Baptist Church of Reynolds. The family will meet friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at McLeighton Funeral Service in Reynolds.

Sign the online guestbook at http://www.mcleightonfuneralservice.com.

McLeighton Funeral Service of Reynolds is in charge of arrangements.
