Alberta Waldron

— A memorial service for Alberta Margaret Callister Waldron, 97, of Athens will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Spry Funeral Home.

Ms. Waldron died Monday, March 25, 2013, at home after a long illness.

Alberta Waldron was born June 5, 1915, in Orting, Wash., to Charles Fredrick Callister and wife, Helen May Coriell.

Ms. Waldron graduated with honors and a Bachelor of Science degree in education with a major in history from Athens College on May 30, 1965. She earned her Master of Arts in teaching from Athens College on June 2, 1968. Mrs. Waldron was a member of Phi Alpha Theta Historical Society. She retired following a distinguished teaching career at Athens State College.

Ms. Waldron was a longtime member of Friendship United Methodist Church in Athens.

She was preceded in death by her son, Robert W. Waldron Jr.; and grandson, Jayson Darrell Waldron.

Survivors include grandchildren, Elisabeth-Anne Waldron Tarpley of Athens, Robert Franklin Waldron of Huntsville, George Raymond Waldron of Bowling Green, Ky.; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Athens State College.
