Marvin Lester Wales, 90, of Elkmont passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at Athens Limestone Hospital.
Mr. Wales was born Aug. 2, 1922, in Limestone County to Arthur Lester Wales and Sallie Mae Fielding Wales. He was a member of Market Street Church of Christ. Mr. Wales served 27 years on the board at Limestone Farmers Co-op, was a U.S. veteran of World War II and retired from the United States Postal Service.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today, July 11, at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Warren Glass and David Cox officiating. Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery.
Visitation is from noon until 2:45 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Kathleen B. Wales of Elkmont; daughter, Susan W. Gilbert and husband Phil of Elkmont; two sons, Bill Wales and wife Susan, and John Walker Wales, both of Athens; grandchildren, Allison Ruf and husband David, Alan Gilbert and wife Bethany, both of Athens, Ben Wales of Madison, Tom Wales of Auburn, and Sam Wales of Athens; four great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Ruf, Avery Ruf, Molly Gilbert and Alyssa Gilbert.
Pallbearers will be Ben Wales, Sam Wales, Tom Wales, Alan Gilbert, David Ruf and Jimmy Wales. Honorary pallbearers are Allison Ruf and Bethany Gilbert.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to the Birdie Thornton Center.
