The funeral for James “Jimmy” Lindsay, 74, of Athens will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Spry Funeral Home with Arvid McGuire officiating. Burial will be in Elk River Mills Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Lindsay passed away Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at Athens-Limestone Hospital.
Jimmy Lindsay was born April 16, 1938, in Alabama. He lived most of his life in Limestone County. He was a 1956 graduate of West Limestone High School and a U.S. Navy veteran.
Mr. Lindsay was a skilled machinist who learned his trade at Brown Engineering Company during the early stages of the space and missile program. He worked at several machine shops in Huntsville and Decatur until he eventually became owner and operator of Lindsay’s General Machine Shop where he worked until he had to retire for health reasons.
Mr. Lindsay was a member of Carriger Church of Christ where he attended for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Lottie Lindsay; and a sister, Jackie Lietch.
Survivors include his wife, Oneta Lindsay of Athens; son, David Lindsay and wife Karla of Dickson, Tenn.; daughters, Carol Romine and husband Derek, Angela Merriman and husband John, all of Athens; grandson, Hayden Romine; granddaughters, Jasmine Romine, Nicole Lindsay and Caitlyn Merriman; brother, Edwin Lindsay of Athens; sister, Sherry Scarboro of Franklin, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
