Billy Joe Martin

— The funeral for Billy Joe Martin, 68, of Athens will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Spry Funeral Home with Greg Patrick and Brent Durham officiating. Burial will be with military honors in Limestone Memorial Gardens.

Visitation is from 6-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Martin died Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at home.

Billy Joe Martin was born July 24, 1944, in Limestone County. He was owner/operator of Martin Tire for 25 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Vietnam War. Mr. Martin was a member of Blackburn Road Baptist Church in Athens.

He was preceded in death by parents, William and Etha Martin; brother, Bobby Martin; and sister, Betty Carol Martin.

Survivors include his wife, Peggye Roberts Martin of Athens; son, Lance Martin and wife Cindy of Athens; daughter, Kerry Martin Durham and husband Brent of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; grandchildren, Hayden Durham and Elizabeth Durham; step-grandson, Bradley Hamm; step-great-grandsons, Matthew Hamm and James Hamm; brothers, Alfred Martin of Ardmore, Lonnie Martin, Glen Martin and Ike Martin, all of Athens; sisters, Patricia Ann Sledge, Brenda Brown and Glenda Campbell, all of Athens; several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Lonnie Martin, Glen Martin, Jeff Martin, Danny Vinson, James Chambers and Mark Lee. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Lee, Aubry Privett, John Wheeler, Brad Pilk and Buddy Bates.
