Maurine Nance Poore was born March 22, 1912, in Wellington, and went to heaven Aug. 3, 2013, at age 101.
She was married to Haston Poore for 68 years until his death in 2000. Maurine is survived by her daughter, Lora Poore Tucker of Tanner; her son, Dale Poore and wife Anita of Cullman; three grandchildren, Bruce Tucker and wife Laura, Lacy Sharpton and husband Jared, and Jake Poore; and four great-grandchildren, Katelynn Tucker, Lindsey Tucker, Avery Sharpton and Reese Sharpton.
Maurine and her two sisters, Gladys and Ruth, grew up in Collinsville then lived in several places in central Alabama before moving to Hanceville in the 1930s. The three sisters and their husbands were a close extended family that included their mother.
Maurine was a faithful member of 7th Street Baptist Church in Cullman for more than 75 years, where she and Haston had been very active as long as their health permitted.
Maurine retired as the office manager of the family business, which she and her husband Haston operated for almost 50 years from their home in Phelan. Before they operated the family business together, Maurine taught in several elementary schools in Cullman County.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, at Moss Funeral Home on U.S. 31 in Cullman. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time with McConnell Funeral Home of Athens directing.
