Wayne Sims

— Wayne Rogers Sims, 73, of Athens passed away Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, in Brooksville, Fla.

Mr. Sims was born Aug. 19, 1940, in El Dorado, Ark., to J.D. Sims and Ethel Bates Sims. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served in the submarine service.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at Bethel Church of Christ with Don Cox officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery with full military honors.

Visitation is noon until 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Mr. Sims was preceded in death by his parents, J.D. and Ethel Sims of El Dorado.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Earls Sims of Athens; two daughters, Julie Kanuri and husband Damodar of Brooksville, Fla., and Christie Roberts and husband Ty of Athens; five grandchildren, Grace Kanuri, Aaron Kanuri, Alyson Roberts, Bailey Roberts and Abby Roberts.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to Bethel Cemetery Fund care of Tommy Sprague, 25949 Pepper Road, Athens, AL 35613, or Ghana Mission, 507 N. Jefferson St., Athens, AL 35611 in care of Stephen and Kandie Taylor.
