Harold Griffin

— Harold Dean Griffin, 65, of Athens, died Friday, July 4, 2014, at the Athens Senior Care and Rehab Center. Mr. Griffin was born Sept. 1, 1938, in Prospect, Tennessee, to Ingomar and Viola Griffin.

Graveside services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Prospect Cemetery with Kim Harbin officiating.

Mr. Griffin was a member of the Jennings Chapel Church of Christ. He spent most of the first part of his life working on dairy farms, which included the Neil Armstrong family farm near Wapakoneta, Ohio. He worked as an artificial insemination field representative for Curtiss Breeding Service and he owned a dairy farm in Cayce, Kentucky. Later he worked for TVA and NASA as a contractor.

Survivors include Ida Nell Griffin, mother of his three children; two sons, Jeff and wife, Sue, Joseph and wife, Tanya; a daughter, Julie Harbin and husband, Kim; grandchildren, Eli, Jonah, Zachary and Madeline; two sisters, Ruth Johns and Betty Fox; a half-sister, Jane Stapp; and a brother, Wendell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ingomar and Viola Griffin; three brothers, Ingomar Griffin Jr., Alvin and Jerry; three sisters, Helen White, Frances Robison and Mildred Carroll; and three half-brothers, A.W., Robert and John.
