Nolan E. Dorning, 76, of Athens passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at Huntsville Hospital.
The funeral for Mr. Dorning will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens with Lynn Mitchell and Paul Clutts officiating.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Nolan E. Dorning was born Oct. 4, 1937, in Limestone County to Walter Dorning and Ruby Carroll Dorning. He was a deacon at Concord Baptist Church. He was an avid gardener who loved to share his produce with friends and family. Mr. Dorning retired from Tractor and Equipment Company after 44 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Retha Dedmon Dorning; daughters, Angela Raney and husband Bobby, Sonya Hutchinson and husband Ross, Cherlyn Clemons and husband Jerry, and Michelle Dorning; grandchildren, Hannah Clemons, Kyle Hutchinson, Colleen Raney Harrison and husband Damon, Caroline Raney and Aubrey Hutchinson; step-granddaughter, Sara Stubbert; great-grandson, Eli Harrison; brother, Allen Dorning; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Mike Dorning, Danny Dorning, Doug Blakely, Troy Cottles, Barry Carroll, Jimmy Arnett and Harold Neely. Honorary pallbearers are Stanley Mitchell, Steve Powers, Jackie Lovell and the Coffee Pot round table.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home, Gideon’s International, American Cancer Society or to your favorite charity.
